Don't Fake it. Faith it!

Don't Fake it. Faith it! What is it you are currently faking? Are you faking a feeling, talent, circumstance, or mindset? Did you know that you actually cannot fake anything?  Even if you think you are a good liar, your body will contradict you, and it can be  dangerous ! You have to actually believe in your gifts, worthiness, luck, or talents  before you can access them.  This is contrary to the philosophy that you should "Fake it until you make it."  You don't want a fake boat to get you through the storm. You want a real boat, but it still requires some faith to get on the boat. Belief tells you the boat will float, but you still got to get on that boat!  Faith Over Fear I would never ask you to fake it; however, I would ask you to Faith it. What's the difference? Faith is evidence-based, but faking it sends the message out that you don't really believe it, and that you are settling for fake goods. Why would you or anyone else want to invest in de...

What's Your Poison?

What's Your Poison ?  Tequila? Vodka? White Wine Spritzer?  No, I'm not talking about alcohol.  Cookies, Chocolate, or your favorite "Coffee" drink (full of Sugar and plant oils)? How about Fast food? Mmm...French Fries. Okay, this is not a rant about Alcohol, Sugar , Fake Sugar, Processed Foods, or Seed Oils. Those are all toxic, of course, but I was shocked when I found out about the poisons in foods I thought were healthy!  The Weird Part You may be shocked to learn that there are toxins in natural and man-made  fruits ,  vegetables , and in "heart-healthy" (Marketing ploy) whole grains. Whoa! Hold on! All my life I've been eating my fruits and veggies for my supposed health. But what about organic? Yes, unfortunately. We already know some plants are poisonous, like Poison Ivy, but the stuff in your grocery store, and our beloved farmer's markets can't be toxic, can they? Well, think about this. How do plants defend themselves against pests? ...

Do you Believe in the Supernatural?

Do you Believe in the Supernatural? There is a physical world and a spiritual reality. The physical reality is made of time, space, matter, and energy. The spiritual  world is the realm of the supernatural, which lies beyond those restrictions but nevertheless is present. Do you doubt it? Where does your doubt exist? Is it physical or mental doubt? Have you experienced intuition or a feeling of knowing that you could not explain? Where did that come from?  Mental Exercise Recall an instance when the duration of time seemed to stand still. Now think of when time seemingly flew or seemed to drag on forever. Is your perception of time relative? Is it relative to your circumstances or to your changing desires? Does time exist, or is it merely our perception of causes and effects that exist? This would explain our subjective view of time in circumstances that we want to rush through, as opposed to those we wish could last.  Causation  is the relationship between the caus...

True Beauty is not Superficial

True Beauty is not Superficial True beauty is in fact, spiritual and precious to God. This kind of beauty radiates from the inward life and heart of a person and outshines their physical appearance whether plain or embellished. 1 Peter 3:3–5 (ESV) 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. What is a gentle and quiet spirit? Gentleness is not weakness. Gentleness is shown in restrained power, discernment, and self-control. A quiet spirit is not just the volume of your voice. A quiet spirit is one that maintains a peaceful steadiness of the heart and mind, despite outward chaos.  Thought Exercise Think of a time when you were able to convey a gentle answer and had a steady mind. Now think of a time when you gave a harsh response, or reacted w...

What are you Resisting?

What are you Resisting? Let's play a game. Fill in the blank. Resistance is _______. Did you answer  "futile" ? Thank you science-fiction! But, killer robots or cyborgs aside, is it really pointless or useless to resist? Psychologists point out that the very resistance of a thing can actually make it stronger . Thank you, Carl Jung !  But, shouldn't we at least protest against those realities we want to change? Given the present world turmoil, that sounds absolutely exhausting. And who is right? Seriously is anyone of us 100% right about anything, let alone everything? Probably not a single human being, but we can look to God. Is that an appeal to authority? Absolutely.  All things are possible with God . From  Matthew 18  we have instructions and principles to settle disputes between Christians. The end goal in correcting another believer should be restoration. Our method of communication should be sharing God's truth (not our own) in love. We are not re...

The Real Skinny on Fasting from a Cheater

The Real Skinny on Fasting from a Cheater Faith and Cheating I never "believed in" fasting. I didn't identify as a person who would fast. I tried once, as a teenager. Well, I cheated actually. My youth group leaders at church arranged for us to have a sleepover at their house. There would be games and movies, prayers and singing that night, and the promise of a delicious big breakfast in the morning. The one caveat was no food that night. It sounded awesome, I thought, except for the fasting. Yeah, the idea of fasting even for one meal sounded like torture, and when I realized there would be movies without delicious hot buttery popcorn, soda, and sweets...nope!  But, Chocolate! I told my friends it was a terrible idea until I thought of a better, albeit immoral idea. I would cheat, and bring sweets. Chocolate candies, sour candies, sweet candies, salty snacks. I had it all! I felt guilty. I felt clever. We snuck into my bag of hidden delights with the confidence of teenag...

Ten Tips and the Secret to Style!

Style is a  Verb!   To Style, is to Design, to Form, to Create!  How exciting! How scary?!  It may be tempting, but you cannot buy style. You can buy someone else's style. That is not going to satisfy. It's like buying into someone else's aesthetic, values, and goals. It will leave you spent emotionally and financially. You are better than that. You deserve to style your own life, including your clothing.  But, I'm not that...fill in the blank_.  Is your excuse that you aren't that vain? Yes, you are. Is it that you are not wealthy enough to have style? Yes, you are. Is it that you aren't pretty enough? Yes, you are. Is it that you are not worthy enough? Yes, you are. Is it that you just don't care what people think when they see you? Yes, you do. You may be self-deceiving yourself because it is an uncomfortable truth that everyone, including yourself, judges on appearance. Even if you are blind. Yes, being without sight, does not stop someone from judging ...

Got Problems? Try this Problem-Solving Template

Got Problems? Try this Problem-Solving Template Wouldn't it be nice to have instructions for life?  More specifically, a method for figuring out how to deal with issues as they arise and problems?  If you can think of at least one real solution for a perceived problem, then you don't really have a problem, but an opportunity for action.  The tricky part is untangling ourselves from the emotional story we tell ourselves surrounding the issue at hand.  So, get objective, and get curious about your problem. Set down the story at least long enough to run it through this series of questions as a kind of problem-solving template. What is the perceived problem/issue? Just naming it, is powerful. Is it even your problem to solve? Whose problem is it? Maybe it is not your problem to own. Which of your values does it uphold vs. reject? What's your trigger? Is it really about a different issue/problem altogether? Is this a thing or a distraction from the real thing/bigger thin...

True Friends know the meaning of "Nothing"

True Friends know the meaning of "Nothing" True friends know the art of nothing, any great love knows the art of nothing, just to be in another’s presence is enough, just to slow the world and sip and savor the moment, to lose and find everything, to redefine, to observe, to decay and spring up again, to question, to sharpen, to break down, to melt, to shout, to dance, to bury, to resurrect, it is all in the nothing.  Let’s hang out. A phone call that starts with "Hey, nothing, You? nothing, [five hours later]. Everything in life is in the nothing. I hope you can do nothing today, without fear or with fear. Sit with it, spin around in circles, lay on the ground, dig your claws in the earth, fill your senses, empty yourself, pull some threads, and follow the nothing away and back to yourself. Every day I feel that I must do these (passionately to feel alive and fully myself): observe, read, write, feel, invite the nothing – space for thoughts and feels to enter without ...

Clueless about your Personal Style?

Image
What is your Personal Style?  Clueless? Ask yourself the following: Are you connecting your inner self to your outer style?  What part of you are you hiding in your style? Could you find ways to make this connection more authentic and exciting? Why Connect Ourselves to Personal Style? First, it is already happening on some level. You are already communicating to the world something with your style. What if you don't care? That shows, too. If your lack of care is showing up visually on you, in your clothing, accessories, and grooming (or lack thereof) those things may be not only repelling others but preventing you from living your best life. If this is not your intention, then you need to set a new intention.  Second, when you connect yourself intentionally to your personal style you will feel more confident, which will positively affect your mood, energy, and day. Our behaviors, our speech, and our style choices all reveal our values, preferences, opinions, and choices....
