True Beauty is not Superficial
True Beauty is not Superficial
3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
What is a gentle and quiet spirit? Gentleness is not weakness. Gentleness is shown in restrained power, discernment, and self-control. A quiet spirit is not just the volume of your voice. A quiet spirit is one that maintains a peaceful steadiness of the heart and mind, despite outward chaos.
Thought Exercise
Think of a time when you were able to convey a gentle answer and had a steady mind. Now think of a time when you gave a harsh response, or reacted without self-control and felt unsettled. Which do you want to be the future portrait of you?
A gentle and quiet-spirited person will speak up for themselves and others, they will speak with clarity, precision, and wisdom. They will discern the situation and consider both the timing and tone of their words, and in doing so, their heart, and their inner beauty are revealed.
True Beauty Challenge
Where in your life can you show up with more true beauty as defined by a gentle and quiet spirit? Next time you prepare your outer self, going through your beauty ritual, consider your inner beauty, your true beauty.
True Beauty is timeless and spiritual. True Beauty transcends varying human physical and spiritual standards, cultural preferences, societal prejudices, changing trends, and even human individual opinion.
