What's Your Poison?
Tequila? Vodka? White Wine Spritzer?
No, I'm not talking about alcohol.
Cookies, Chocolate, or your favorite "Coffee" drink (full of Sugar and plant oils)?
How about Fast food? Mmm...French Fries.
Okay, this is not a rant about Alcohol, Sugar, Fake Sugar, Processed Foods, or Seed Oils.
Those are all toxic, of course, but I was shocked when I found out about the poisons in foods I thought were healthy!
The Weird Part
You may be shocked to learn that there are toxins in natural and man-made fruits, vegetables, and in "heart-healthy" (Marketing ploy) whole grains. Whoa! Hold on! All my life I've been eating my fruits and veggies for my supposed health. But what about organic? Yes, unfortunately.
We already know some plants are poisonous, like Poison Ivy, but the stuff in your grocery store, and our beloved farmer's markets can't be toxic, can they? Well, think about this. How do plants defend themselves against pests? They contain natural pesticides/toxins, in their seeds, leaves, stems, and roots. Plant material is also difficult to digest unless you are an Herbivore, which you as a human are not. Seeds (like insects) require special digestion, which birds have, but humans do not.
Plants are also full of Antinutrients!
What are Antinutrients?
Antinutrients: Glucosinolates, Lectin and Oxalates, Phytates, Saponins, and Tannins, Gluten, Trypsin Inhibitors, Isoflavaones, Solanine, and Chaconine.
Okay, these are in a lot of foods we are told are healthy. Some are worse than others, and some of the toxins can be decreased with correct preparation. Educate yourself. Decide for yourself.
Symptoms of Antinutrient Toxicity
You decide for yourself if you can tolerate these Antinutrients, but if you are experiencing signs like digestive issues, joint inflammation, headaches, or other autoimmune problems, maybe it is worth changing your diet. Talk to your trusted physician. Listen to your own gut! Yes, really listen to your own body.
My Miracle
I did, and for me, it has been a miracle. After years of acid reflux and countless attempts to fix my gut with probiotics and other methods, I finally am seeing real results (no acid reflux, no bloating, increased energy, better sleep) by greatly eliminating Antinutrients.
